Kick Yo' Ass

Okay, so after bitching a whole bunch when I posted the first concept design for Ares, I realised maybe it was more the picture I hated than the outfit, so it forced me to sit down and draw this. XD (My first finished piece in months, wow.) Blatantly ripped of a pose of some random little Mars picture I stumbled across, but I can't find a link now. Basically a pamphlet illustration lookin' pic of Mars. Anyway, I stole his pose, sorry dude.

AHEM. Hoplite Ares, looking much more in-character this time around. I changed the colouring of a couple things (helmet body, cape lining) simply because there was too much red and gold.

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. Especially considering I changed up my style and did two things I almost never do:

1) Did a rough sketch, then inked the details right onto the sketch. Normally by the time I pick up a pen my drawing is exactly as I want; this time I just sort of winged it. I think you can tell in the sheer number of errors and the shakiness of the lines, but. It was faster?

2) Coloured straight into Painter, all at once, with NO LAYERS. The lack of layers as a safety net had me hyper-ventilating a little, but I did it in water colours so I could dry periodically and not worry about messing it up too badly. I really like the way water colours look, and I had to restrain myself from posting the full size of this picture (this is about 60%) because at full view you can really see the texture and I love it.

Anyway. Don't mess with boys with big pointy spears.
